Shaifq has been the main character of the Cannes' Camera D'Or 1988 winner Salaam Bombay, but after the movie he failed to become a star, fell back into poverty and lived on the streets for years before he became a rickshaw (tuk-tuk) driver in his home city of Bangalore, Karnataka State, India.
