Poonam, 11, (centre) her oldest sister Arti, 17, (left) and their young friend Dipshika, 4, (right) are applying a Bindi decoration to their forehead, while inside the family's newly built home in Oriya Basti, one of the water-contaminated colonies in Bhopal, central India, near the abandoned Union Carbide (now DOW Chemical) industrial complex, site of the infamous '1984 Gas Disaster'. A Bindi is a forehead decoration worn in South Asia, traditionally a bright red dot, applied between the eyebrows.
