Recent recognitions and awards include:

Wins the prestigious Italian journalistic prize 'Enzo Baldoni', for his investigative work on birth defects in the city of Fallujah, Iraq, as a consequence to two violent US-led attacks in 2004; 

Selected as a winner for the 2011 Getty Images 'Grant for Good', for his work on water pollution in Bhopal, India;

'The Photographers Giving Back' assigns a grant for the upbringing of Poonam, one of Alex's subjects in Bhopal, India. For more: NYT Lens blog article;

'Gold Prize' at the YIPPA - Yonhap International Press Photo Awards in the category 'Single -Enhancement of International Peace'. Exhibition Dates and Winners;
